Tummy Time & Tongue

We have been working so hard on our tummy time over the past few weeks! Haley has gotten really good at lifting up her head & chest and holding it up while on her tummy! (I think her neck muscles are so strong because she spends a lot of time being carried on her "perch" throughout the day. (Her "perch" is when we carry her so she is looking over our shoulder.)) While on her tummy she does lots of kicking as if she is practicing her crawling. Before I know it, she will be on the move!

Haley has also started playing with her tongue a lot! She spends lots of time sticking it out and likes to bring her left fist up to her mouth to suck on. I'm wondering if she will be a lefty? The third picture above is while she was "practicing" her tongue today. She also likes to watch me stick mine out.

Haley's Anatomy

This post is dedicated to my high school friend Summer (a.k.a. Liz) who loves baby feet. Haley's feet have chubbed up lately quite a bit and I thought everyone may be interested in seeing them too. Her fingers have gotten a bit "rounder" too but I couldn't seem to get a picture of them as they were constantly moving.

Today I took Haley into meet my co-workers along with another friend, Simona. That morning when I told her we were going to "work" she smiled! But when we got there it was a whole nother story. We arrived at 11 for a 45 minute visit. Haley cried the entire time. Literally, the entire time. She would not let anyone hold her. She feel asleep on the way home (~noon) and slept until 5. Guess she was tired after all that crying! Above is a picture of her sleeping in her car seat once we got home. She positioned her hands like that on her own. So peaceful!

Immunizations

Haley had her first round of immunizations today! Our appointment was at 2:35 which is right in the middle of her nap time. Poor girl was so tired. I nursed her for a few minutes before the shots to give her a fill-up then they gave her the shots. I have never heard her cry so loud as when she got the three shots. She quickly calmed and when I tried to nurse her again, she fell asleep. Poor girl. We came home, ate, and then went down for a nap! I think the whole experience was more traumatic for me than her.

Here are her stats as of today:
Weight: 11lbs 4oz (5.1kg) (~60th percentile)
Height: 23inches (58cm) (75th percentile)
Head: 15inches (38cm) (25th percentile)

I'm not quite sure they got her head measured correctly. Seems odd that that there is such a difference between her height/weight percentile and head circumference.

Haley is 2 months old

Today Haley is 2 months old! Boy does time fly! It has been 2 of the best months of our lives having been blessed with such a sweet little girl! Today Haley watched (or slept through) some of the NCAA Basketball Tournament with Steve. Here are a few photos from game watching:

And then we decided we would take her for a walk. We got her all bundled in her pink fleece that Aunt Julia & Uncle Ryan gave her and loaded her into the stroller. We got half a block down the street and Steve thought it was a bit to chilly so we turned around. If it warms up later today we may try again.

Naptime Stretches

One of my favorite things to do is unwrap Haley from her swaddle blanket after sleeping! It is so funny to see her stretch. Her facial expressions are priceless and usually there is a fart thrown in for good measure! Here is a quick video of her stretches from naptime yesterday. I actually didn't get the fart recorded though!

P.S. Be sure you have the volume on to hear her grunts!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Hope each of you gets to imbibe in some green beer to celebrate! I dressed Haley in her Ireland jersey that my friend Claire brought back for her from Ireland. Guess that makes it authentic?

We have had a hectic 2 days! Haley has been SO fussy and I'm SO ready for her to grow out of this! When she is awake we are feeding or pacing the house! She will not let me sit down or play in her swing, activity gym, or tummy flier. It makes for a very, very long day! This fussiness seems to come and go as we had a great last week. Our doctor reassured me at our appointment last week that babies are their fussiest at 6-8 weeks (she will be 8 weeks tomorrow) and will grow out of it around the age of 3 months! I just tell myself that tomorrow is a new day! I feel guilty for wishing that 3 months would hurry up because I know she will only be little once, but...

It's a bird, it's a plane...

...it's Haley! Haley is not the biggest fan of tummy time! My friend Simona has one of these tummy fliers so I thought we should get one too in an effort to improve our tummy time experience! It is so funny to see her on this thing. It will sometimes increase her tummy time before crying from immediately to 2-3 minutes. We are working on it....

It has been a great weekend so far! Steve had friday off and it has been so nice having a 3 day weekend with him! Yesterday we also got my birthday present...a 40" Sony LCD TV and an HDPVR! I am so exicted and already cannot believe that we actually watched our old tv! Here is a photo of my birthday loot:

The weather here today is fantastic with the temperature almost hitting 50 degrees today! I used to think that 50 was SO cold but now I think it feels so nice! Am I loosing the Texan in me?

Well, hope everyone is having a great weekend too!

The BIG 3-0!

So today is my 30th birthday! How do I feel about that? Well, in some ways it doesn't really bother me at all. Age is just a number, right? But then I remember thinking that 30 was SO old and now I am 30! Guess it is all a part of growing up? But then again, does 30 bring gray hair?

Yesterday Haley and I went to visit Jill & Baby Jonah Faber for a play date! Jill & Jon were in our Childbirth Essentials class that we took through the hospital. I was due on January 29th and Jill was due January 30th. Haley came 8 days early and Jonah came 11 days late! It was great to catch up with Jill and see how cute Jonah is!

I have attached a picture of Jonah & Haley and a picture of Haley with her pacifier which she now likes again!

Trip to the doctor

Haley & I went to the doctor today and both received a clean bill of health! Yea! Haley weighed in a 9lbs 15oz, 22in tall, and 14.5in head circumfrence. Her weight and height are both in the 50th percentile and her head circumfrence is about the 60th percentile. She has developed a few fat rolls over the past week....so cute!

Trip to Banff

One of my good friend's, Claire, got married yesterday out in Banff National Park. Since the reception was at a hotel, we decided it would be nice to get away for the night! I will admit, I was SO nervous about how everything was going to go with a 6 week old, but I'm happy to report it went much better than I had imagined! I was relieved when I saw there were 3 other babies under the age of 6 months. The bride was beautiful in her amazing dress and the groom was handsome in his tux! Haley was very well behaved and actually slept through much of the wedding ceremony and reception! A lot of the ladies "ooh'd" and "ahh'd" over how little and cute she was. Several also commented that they were amazed at how long her fingers are! Guess I didn't really notice how long they actually were! We had a great time and it was nice to get away!

Update...

So, I thought I would give everyone an update on Haley! So much has happened over this past week, I thought I would make a list:

1. Haley was 6 weeks old yesterday. Time flies...
2. I bet she weighs at least 10lbs, if not 11. Her belly and cheeks have gotten so chubby! It is adorable!
3. On Monday she smiled her first "real" smile (one not attributable to gas or poop!) I get at least several a day and many actually come while she is on the changing table or after I feed her!
4. Haley really loves her activity gym! She will play in it for at least 2-3 15 minutes stretches per day! She just stares at the different hanging toys in amazement!
5. She makes all kinds of sounds now other than crying! Steve noticed this on Tuesday too and it is so cute to hear them all!
6. Haley's favorite thing to do is have one of us carry her in an upright position, facing outwards, and we have to be walking around the house at all times. She just stares at everything as if she has never seen it before, yet Steve and I think the count is up to over 1 million laps over the past 6 weeks. We are thinking about building a dog run...
7. She has had 3 bottles in her life and has really taken to it! Steve has given her al 3 and she seems to enjoy the fact that she doesn't have to work as hard for her food.
8. Her tummy seems to be sensitive at times and she gets upset when it is! Usually it passes after 15 minutes or so, but they are a long 15 minutes! Things seem to be worse mid-afternoon and the past few nights after the bottle.
9. We both have our 6 week check-up on Monday! At this doctor appointment Haley will receive a general check-up including a weigh-in and measurement and I cannot wait to see how much she has officially grown! I will get checked out too and will unfortunately receive a clean bill of health that I can technically return to work (no more medical disability payments...bummer!) Don't worry, I'm still off work for the next 10.5 months, I just will not be receiving disability payments from ExxonMobil. Bummer. I'll be sure to post her stats after the bit appointment. Immunizations are not until 8 weeks!
10. Haley is quite the upcoming international traveller with a trip planned to Houston in April for my sister's wedding and a trip to Pittsburgh in May for my brother-in-law's university graduation. It will be interesting to travel with a little one!

All for now! Hope many of you are enjoying Spring weather...so jealous!
