On Thursday Haley and I had a long to-do list of errands. I had Steve's car as he needed the truck to pick-up a card table we were borrowing from friends for Haley's party. First on the list was a trip to
Crave Cupcakes to order the cupcakes for Haley's birthday party. Of course I had to buy Steve & I each one for dessert that evening! (And they were delicious!)
Next on the list was the the Post Office to pick up Haley's birthday gift from Aunt Julia & Uncle Ryan. We were travelling east on 17
th Ave SW and stopped at the light at 69
th St SW at the right turn yield. As I was waiting for my chance to make a right turn on red, there was a loud BANG. We had been rear ended and pushed out onto 69
th St. I
immediately pulled to the side of the road and got out to check on Haley. She was OK but crying as she was scared. They guy driving the Toyota Tacoma truck also pulled over. He immediately called 911 as I had a large bump on my forehead. Paramedics, a fire truck, and the police were all at the scene within a minute or two. They evaluated me but said I did not have a concussion and I could travel to the hospital with them if desired. They quickly looked at Haley but said she was OK because she was in her awesome
Britax Boulevard CS car seat. Steve arrived shortly after. Steve's Honda Accord had a decent amount of damage on the rear with the pumper pushed up and cracked, the trunk smashed up, and the taillights cracked. We were just lucky that another car from 69
th St didn't hit us! After the cop completed all of his paperwork, we were on our way home.
After getting Haley going on her lunch, I drove myself to Rocky View General Hospital (where Haley was born) to the Emergency Room. (Steve stayed home the rest of the afternoon.) I wanted to get my head looked at, just in case. I arrived expecting to be there for hours, but was only there for a total of two hours. The ER doctor evaluated my bump, checked my face bones for any fractures, looked at my neck, back & spine and said that I would be
ok. The
dr. said I would likely get a bit sorer/stiffer over the next few days and that I would likely end up with a black eye. Well he was right:

Anyways, Haley & I are both doing good! We are now working with insurance to get the car fixed (estimate appoint is on Tuesday.) Insurance paid for a new car seat for Haley as Transport Canada recommends that any car seat that has been in an accident be replaced no matter how minor it is. I was able to buy the exact same
Britax car seat in the
Cowmooflage print!
This is the 4
th time I have been rear ended in 10 years. Two times I was stopped at a light, once I was parked in a parking lot, and once I was going like 10 mph on I-610 in Houston. I guess I just don't any luck!
